If you\u2019ve been looking at starting an online business for a while, \u00a0you\u2019ve probably seen several different business models floating \u00a0around. Probably the most popular one is affiliate marketing. <\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019re told you should use lead magnets and free gifts to build \u00a0an email list. Stick those lead magnets on a squeeze page and \u00a0send traffic to it, right? Well, if you\u2019ve tried it, you\u2019ve already \u00a0discovered that it doesn\u2019t work very well.<\/span><\/p>\n

After spending time and\/or money on sending traffic to that page, \u00a0you\u2019ll usually notice most people aren\u2019t exactly giving you their \u00a0best email address. In fact, about one-third of them are giving \u00a0you a fake email. And of the ones that are giving you a real one, \u00a0it\u2019s usually one they reserve for \u201cjunk\u201d which is how they think of \u00a0your promotional material. That means it\u2019s an address they don\u2019t \u00a0check regularly and so it\u2019s about as useful as a fake one. And \u00a0keep in mind, they\u2019re called freebie seekers for a reason! They \u00a0don\u2019t really buy things. Usually what happens at this point is that \u00a0a struggling internet marketer starts to realize his or her marketing emails are getting open rates of around 4 or 5% and \u00a0generating zero sales and that all their effort in creating a lead \u00a0magnet and landing page and driving traffic was a giant waste. <\/span><\/p>\n

So, they give up on IM and assume it\u2019s all a big hoax. Sad story, \u00a0but it happens every day and it\u2019s the ultimate end of about 95% \u00a0of would-be internet marketers.<\/span><\/p>\n

So, what are the other five percent doing differently? Easy. <\/span><\/p>\n

They\u2019re creating and selling products of their own.<\/span><\/p>\n

You see, when you create and sell a product of your own, you\u2019re \u00a0creating a different type of list. A buyers\u2019 list. Unlike freebie \u00a0seekers who make it a point to never buy anything and also \u00a0rarely give you their real contact info, buyers actually buy things \u00a0(crazy right?). These are people who are serious about internet \u00a0marketing and actually regularly pull out their credit cards and \u00a0buy things. And because the email you collect comes from their \u00a0transaction info, you\u2019re finally getting real email addresses that \u00a0people actually check!<\/span><\/p>\n

And beyond list building, selling your own products carries \u00a0another benefit. You control your profit. You don\u2019t have to split \u00a0sales revenue with anyone (although you certainly can if you\u2019re \u00a0having affiliates help with a product launch). So, you\u2019re either \u00a0keeping all the profit for yourself or you\u2019re choosing how much to \u00a0share with affiliates. Either way, you\u2019re in control.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, if you do choose to pay commissions to affiliates \u00a0and have them drive sales, it\u2019s essentially free traffic. You\u2019re paying a pre-determined commission to people ONLY when they \u00a0make a sale, so there\u2019s none of the risk or gambling that usually \u00a0accompanies something like paid display ads or solo ads. You \u00a0finally switched places with the successful marketers you\u2019ve \u00a0been looking up at and now you\u2019re letting THEM handle the \u00a0problem of how to get traffic to YOUR offer. What a difference \u00a0that makes!<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, creating and selling a product establishes credibility like \u00a0nothing else. In a market packed full of so-called gurus and \u00a0celebrity marketers, you\u2019ll absolutely need credibility. Your \u00a0credibility affects several things. Firstly, it affects the likelihood of \u00a0people buying your future products. Secondly, it affects how \u00a0many people will recognize your name and bother to open your \u00a0emails. Finally, it boosts your ability to network and recruit \u00a0affiliates and JV partners. And having a product of your own to \u00a0point to is one of the quickest and easiest routes to increasing \u00a0credibility.<\/span><\/p>\n

You might be asking yourself if product creation is for you. Well, \u00a0take a moment and look through your inbox right now. Look at \u00a0all the emails coming in from top internet marketers. Sure, \u00a0they\u2019re all promoting other people\u2019s products with affiliate links. <\/span><\/p>\n

But what\u2019s the one other thing you see each of them doing at \u00a0least once every month or two? They\u2019re creating and selling their \u00a0own products. It\u2019s very rare that you encounter a successful \u00a0marketer without their own products. So, if that\u2019s the one thing \u00a0that all successful marketers are doing in your inbox, then guess \u00a0what: yup, you need to be doing it too. But don\u2019t worry.
